The Sky is the Limit.

It has to be one of the most overcooked and underdeserved figures of speech used on people. For most of us, the sky is not the limit. In fact, the limit is likely somewhere closer to the fifth floor in Park Slope. Some place where you kind of have a view, but it’s mostly of places that are higher up than yours. Places that are better. That’s all most of us will ever see.

The thing is, some of us already know we’re going to succeed. Some of us are destined to block the views of others. I’m watching those people who have succeeded before me, and I watch them move from the third floor to the fifth; the fifth to the eighth; the eighth to a new building on a higher floor in a better part of town; continually closer to the sky.

And I feel myself doing that too. It just so happens that by way of a conversation I had today, I realized there are only so many penthouses to move into, and even fewer high-rises with the best ones. So competition is imminent, whether I agree with it or subscribe to it or not.

I guess what I’m saying is—perhaps for the first time—it’s time to bring it on. But recognize this: I’m going to beat you.
