Funny about Tumblr.
Tumblr has begun to look more and more like a micro-trend portal for everyone involved. There is a whole ménage of taste makers within its walls, and as soon as they deem something interesting it spreads like wildfire. Truth be told, Tumblr is almost as viable as Twitter for its uniquely rapid ability to share tidbits of news and information faster than the most commonly accepted sources for news and information can, because its ears are so close to the ground almost everywhere in the country.
Yet with Tumblr, this rapid share of information is all but restricted to romantic/sexual conversation, pop music (don’t pretend like this is some kind of indie haven, because it’s pop), internet memes, and the occasional piece of valuable editorial content. So rarely do I hear the news from Tumblr, and it woes me; because we can share photos, video, audio, and text so much more fully in as little time on Tumblr as we can microblog on Twitter. Yet we all—myself included—choose to discuss our honestly unimportant sex lives, post random anonymous entries about our ex boyfriends and girlfriends, and share pictures of Xzibit because it’s so much easier to escape reality with humor and childish emotions than it is to keep abreast of the ever-changing world in which we physically live.
I guess what I’m saying is, even the Joker memes are getting a bit old. And on some levels, so is Tumblr.
Or maybe it’s just me getting old?
