The faint crispness of fire-sky permeates the street scene downtown—even as a chilly rain spits all over commuters, over-bundled, hustling to shelter. But me? I walk tall, letting the sputtering sleet wash over me and infiltrate the cracks between my sparkling grin.Spring is important but in Colorado, autumn is the real time of rejuvenation. It’s just a hint of what’s to come: that same crispness ever increasing as the first snowstorms lay poised above 10,000 feet, ready to quietly explode; the sweaters, scarves, parkas and peacoats; the boot-beaten slush; the hot chocolate and sweet liquor and the fresh-baked pastries; the shhh-shhh of a freshly dusted groomer. This is the time at which we reinvent ourselves with an extra layer of intimacy, partly out of loneliness but mostly out of love. This is the beginning of the best time of the year. And for those of you in Arizona, California, Florida…my heart goes out to you for perpetually never understanding just how wonderful it is.
