I’ve been a big fan of Jack White since around the time Get Behind Me Satan hit shelves—I’d been fairly unimpressed with previous White Stripes records until starting to actualize that one. And then, I became a fan of the Kills after hearing No Wow on a road trip to Los Angeles in 2006. I was supremely impressed with the new Kills record, Midnight Boom, and Jack White’s more contemporary work with the Raconteurs.

And then, a couple weeks ago, I was informed that they’re working together. And that Jack White is the drummer?

Regardless, the track I heard in Nashville was as gritty as anyone would have expected; and the sultry allure of Allison Mosshart’s voice palpitates over the grit in a way that even the crunchiest of Kills tracks couldn’t evoke.

The record is called Horehound and it comes out stateside on July 16th. The tour stops in Denver on August 18th. Needless to say, I’m excited for what that grit’s going to sound like with a lot of summer heat behind it.
